BOOK REVIEW: The Cocktail of Love

SYNOPSIS

The Cocktail of Love is a love story based in Delhi and Mumbai that revolves around two best friends—Ashna and Samar. During the graduation, when Ashna comes to know that Samar's love for her goes beyond friendship, their relationship starts going through turmoil. Samar is confident that Ashna is her soulmate and wants her to feel the same. Ashna, on the other hand, doesn't want to jeopardize their friendship. Torn between her best friend's unexpected proposal and her fear of losing their precious bond, Ashna eventually realizes what she wants and gives in to what destiny has decided for her.

MY REVIEW

This book has the feel of a Bollywood film. It felt like a typical Bollywood film from start to finish, with friendships, breakups, and pursuing one's passions. And the author has done it so well that it keeps you hooked. I read the book in one go. This book is an intoxicating blend of friendship, love, career, betrayal, and a tad bit of drama. It is semi-realistic and keeps you wanting to flip the pages. One of my favorite aspects of the novel was how the author told the narrative from the perspectives of the two main characters, which made it much more exciting. The reader may anticipate different endings while reading—at least I did. Based on my knowledge of Bollywood movies, there were about 2-3 endings that I thought of, but the finale was cliché. I had hoped for a different ending. Overall, it's a fast-paced, light-hearted novel that captures your attention from the first page.

My favorite lines from the book-

Sometimes we shut our doors to the people we love for trivial reasons. We are so consumed by our ego that we end up waiting for them to open the door and make things right. What if the person at the other end is also waiting for the same thing? What if the door never opens?

The impact of photographs is very strange as they have the power to transport us into the past. They take you to your cherished memories, the people you had once loved, even though they are not a part of your present.

I'm glad I broke some bones; it helped me plaster my broken life.

Good friends don't let the miseries fog around you for long.

Ashna, distances don't separate friends, people do.
